  •   Important note:

This solution requires a Hotspot Operator Account at HotSpotSystem.com. You can create an Operator Account here. If you would like to see what features you will be able to use with our solutions, click here. If you already have an Operator Account, then read on...

1. Download the special AirOS firmware with built-in Hotspot System functionality from http://www.hotspotsystem.com/firmware/hss/Ubiquiti/802.11/. In most cases you need to load the .bin file, for Pico you have to flash with the -8M.bin version. If the router is rejecting the firmware, first you need to downgrade the firmware to 3.5 version which you can download from Ubiquiti's website.

2. Reset the router by pressing the PWR button on the back for more than 10 seconds.

2/a. Upload Hotspotsystem's Ubiquiti firmware to the AP.
Set fixed IP address on your computer and connect tha LAN cable to the Ubiquiti AP. Set a fix IP on your machine (Netmask:, leave the gateway blank) and open the AP's page on On System tab press "Upgrade".

2/b. Browse to the firmware and upload it.

2/c. Press "Upgrade".

2/d. Wait until the AP finishes the upgrade.

After successful firmware upgrade (when you can see the new firmware), please hard reset your device
WARNING: It is important to reset the router to factory defaults before moving to the next step!!!

3. Click on Network and set the internet connection so your Ubiquiti AP can connect to an
existing router. You can set DHCP or static IP. Click on change (you don't need to apply settings now).

4. Click on Link Setup and set the Wireless Mode to access point mode. Click on change.

5/a. On Services tab, fill out your operator username and location ID (for example: coolhotspot_1 if your registered operator username is 'coolhotspot') in the Radius Nas ID field.

Check 'Enable Hotspot' and leave 'Start on boot' checked.

NOTE #1: If you set up a Hotspot FREE BASIC location, you MUST CHECK 'Login on splash page (combined)'. NOTE #2: If you set up a Hotspot FREE SOCIAL location, you MUST ADD 'www.apple.com' into Walled Garden > Allowed Hosts field!

5/b. Click change and Apply changes.

6. Start chilli service (on Services page, under STATUS) or reboot the your ap.

If you change the nasid and you apply the changes don't forget to stop and start the chilli service or reboot the device. Tested on Ubiquiti ISP access points (802.11): Nanostation2, Pico2, Pico2 HP, Bullet2, Bullet2 HP, PowerStation. We can build you firmware for the 5GHz products upon request.
